  • The painting Refuge is one of the many works of art commissioned by the Southern California Art Project, which was a division of the FAP. Created in 1941, the paintings were originally installed at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. Executed in heavily saturated earth tones, the large-scale paintings attempt to portray the beauty and vastness of America's western landscape.
