  • Schoonhoven's untitled, highly illusionistic murals wrap around the walls of the semi-circular "morning room" in Pasadena's Federal Building and Courthouse.  Installed in 1985, the frescos fill in all blank space between windows and doorways with warm panoramic visions of the desert, and rely on the earthy shades of sandy mauve and taupe to convey a sense of softened naturalism.  Through the repetition of desert tones, the artist visually incorporates the structural beams of the ceiling into the design as a whole.
