  • For the courtroom lobby of the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building in Bangor, Maine, R. Scott Baltz created a pair of paintings that speak to the essence of the Maine landscape.  Opening Sky Stillness depicts an intimate view of a pine-filled tree line by the water’s edge, below a mountain sheathed in golden light.  Its complement, Moving Sky Mirrored, presents a sweeping lake vista, framed by receding mountains and a cloud-filled sky.  Both paintings were inspired by the artist’s interest in transitory light and how it simultaneously exudes a sense of calm and a contained quiet energy.
