  • In addition to his two paintings Loading Oil and Loading Cotton, Jerry Bywaters created two additional murals that show map-like views of the Houston Shipping Channel and Port.  Ship Channel Aerial View provides an overall view of the shipping channel from the Gulf of Mexico to the turning basin at the Port of Houston.  Points of interest along the way that are indicated on the map include: Galveston and Galveston Bay, Texas City, Dickinson, and La Porte.  Port of Houston Aerial View shows the major wharves of the turning basin.  In the bottom left corner of the painting is a building labeled “Cotton Shed A,” a reference to the importance of cotton production in Houston, which Bywaters illustrated in his related painting, Loading Cotton.
