- This mural, illustrates the role of agriculture and industry in the development of Maury County. Maury County was among the leading agricultural regions of Tennessee during the 19th century, represented by tobacco farmers. By the 1890s much of the farmland has been depleted of its natural fertility. The region turned to mining of phosphate ore until the 1980s. The power structure refers to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) that was established through the 1939 Tennessee Valley Authority Act.
