  • A seated philospher, in white flowing garments, consulting a manuscript of the Law, with two of his disciples in yellow and red togas standing behind him.  On the right, Justice is holding the scales and awaiting their decision.  The treatment of the whole is classic, the landscape is similar to that of the Straits of Messina, in the Gulf of Corinth, though representing no actual scene.  On a grassy knoll in the background is a small temple with detached columns and a statue in front.  This overlooks the sea, with mountains on the far side of the water.
