Credits New Deal art project
  • This fanciful map of Nebraska was painted by artist Lillian Ibser (1909–2003) during her employment by the federal government's Public Works of Art Project (PWAP) in the 1930s.

The PWAP was a New Deal program organized under the Civil Works Administration (CWA) to provide employment relief to Americans struggling through the Great Depression.

The Nebraska PWAP employed 32 artists for six months during the winter and spring of 1933–34. During that time, the artists created 140 oil paintings, etchings, pen and ink drawings, and lithographs.
