  • Working in the Realist tradition, Briggs bases his paintings on oil sketches and drawings made from direct observation at locations where the artist waits to capture the ideal weather and light conditions.  Not only do Briggs' paintings document the landscape, but they also illustrate the contemporary socio-political context and reminds us the gravity of the diminishing natural environment. "Turtle Key", 4' high x 15' wide, is a piece for this mural set, designed for the 9th floor, a horizontal piece that shows southern Florida at low tide.
