Anthony Di Lorenzo
b. 1887, Lipari, Italy - d. 1955, Alpine, New JerseyAnthony Di Lorenzo was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1905. He lived in New Jersey and worked in New York as a commercial sculptor and architectural ornamentalist, at times partnering with architectural sculptor Ulysses A. Ricci. Di Lorenzo was a prolific carver and ornamented buildings across the United States, though little is known about his work beyond his public commissions. During the 1920s, he sculpted ornamental sculpture for the Brooklyn Trust & Savings Bank, the Straus buildings in New York and Chicago, the First National Bank building in Davenport, Iowa, and the Hardware Mutual Insurance building in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In 1933, Di Lorenzo carved limestone reliefs depicting symbols of land, air, and sea above six elevators at the Department of Justice building in Washington, D.C. He was also selected to design figures for the Court of Peace at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York
