Susan Poffenbarger
b. 1940, Charleston, West VirginiaSusan Poffenbarger, who lives in Dunbar, West Virginia, is an accomplished painter who focuses primarily on the lovely, untouched landscape of her home state. Her paintings balance the state’s rugged topography with the beauty of its setting. She is also aware of the fragility and vulnerability of that landscape and shows the incursion of man only by depicting areas that have been cleared or planted. There are no architectural references. Poffenbarger has had numerous exhibitions of her work in West Virginia and has participated in many invitational shows. Her paintings are in the collections of the Huntington Museum of Art, the State of West Virginia Governor’s Mansion, the University of Charleston, and many corporations.
