Courtroom one is the ceremonial and largest of the three original courtrooms designed for the district court where trials took place. Strikingly ornamented, it is paneled in white pavonazzo marble with marble pilasters and plaster caryatids. Elaborately carved Corinthian capitals top columns supporting cast plaster entablatures and curved pediments. Three ceramic tile mosaic murals adorn the arched panels on the right. They depict [l. to r.] "Science Literature, Arts," "Philippines, Puerto Rico, Columbia, Hawaii," and "Agriculture, California, Mining." Detail work in the molded plaster ceiling highlights garlands, fruits, vegetables, eagles, and other examples of abundance of the West. Multi-colored skylights shed natural light on the courtroom proceedings.
