  • Composed of two scenes, the panel to the left shows Baron Christopher DeGraffenreid (founder of New Bern) telling "Old World" residents about the "New World."  The center panel to the right depicts the history of printing and publishing in North Carolina.  James Davis, who set up the first printing press in the province, in 1749, is shown with the press.
