  • Two paintings, 60" x 70" each, flank the entrance to the historic law library.  The vertical

format of the paintings and their curved top relates to the vaulted ceiling of the building.  Because the works are in a relatively long, narrow space, the compositions try to convey movement, drawing the viewer into the paintings and then the law library.  The paintings represent the geographic diversity of the 10th Circuit.  One painting features a knurled evergreen tree with a mountain range in the background while the other depicts a large tree in a rolling wheat field.  The two trees act as sentinels at the library entrance and the sweeping lines emphasize entry.
