  • Carved from solid blocks of rainbow granite, Steven Woodward's "Monument to Monument" offers a contemporary interpretation of a traditional motif.  Inspired by ancient Egyptian obelisks and numerous memorials around the world, "Monument to Monument" features an obelisk whose shaft is rotated off the base at a nine-degree angle.  This minor adjustment revitalizes the conventional design, creating two distinct parts, and activates the sculpture. "Monument to Monument" also recalls the hundreds of metal obelisks that define the border between the United States and Canada and is intended to recognize the continual process of keeping this border intact.
