  • Fort Brown Resaca depicts the resaca, or dry river bed, near Fort Brown as seen from the island
looking toward the city and the college.  The artist painted the local architecture including the

City Council Chambers, the Brownsville Art

League Complex and the amphitheater, which was torn down. Dotted with palm trees and other native plants, the mural also

shows the light of the early morning sun as reflected on one of the Brownsville's many resacas.

The artist's working process involves working from Ektachrome slides where she sketches a concept and finishes it with watercolors.  Using the watercolor as her guide for the tiles, the artist draws the sketch on the tiles, paints them with glazes and overglazes the tiles by hand.  Once glazed, the tiles are then fired overnight.
