  • Commissioned under the Section of Fine Arts.  Carved wood wall sculpture depicting the establishment of the town of Grand Crossing. "In the year 1881 a small party from Watertown, searching for a place to settle, picked the site destined to grow into the city of Aberdeen.   This relief depicts the construction of the Post Office.  The men perform the heavier duties and the women and children help by bringing food and painting the sign which is to be hung over the doorway."  The work was located in the Post Office originally.  A group of townspeople are shown carrying out various building tasks such as painting, hammering, and sawing. In the foreground is a sign for the Grand Crossing Post Office.  A woman on the lower right is painting it.  A man at left is sawing a plank.
