Recovered

No single inventory of New Deal artworks exists, and over the decades many pieces have been destroyed, lost, or forgotten. Since 2001, GSA's Office of the Inspector General and the Public Buildings Service have teamed up to preserve a great American legacy, by investigating the whereabouts and authenticity of missing New Deal art. If an artwork is determined to be federal property, officials work with the possessor to return it to federal custody and public display. To date this GSA partnership has resulted in the identification and recovery of over 200 works of art.
