- Symbolized by a woman leaning on a column, holding many sacred vessels. Described by her creator as "carrying her commerce beyond the pillars of Hercules - the boat symbolizes her commerce, and the helmet with two dolphins, her mastery of the sea." Weighs 200 tons. The figure of Phoenicia is a woman standing tall and straight. Her hands meet in front of her stomach and grasp a small model boat. a carved pillar stands behind each of Phoenicia's elbows. The entire sculpture is carved from one section of tennessee "marble" limestone. The alignment between the large carved stone section and the granite base is fairly regular around all sides.
