  • Commissioned under the United States Treasury Department Art Project.  Signed Grant Christian 1935-36 in lower right corner of one panel.  Nine separate paintings, each depicting a different aspect of city life in the early 1900s.  Much activity and many colors.

Christian was originally commissioned by TRAP to complete thirteen murals.  However when he ready to install the works, Christian found that the lobby space had been redecorated and that the original mural spaces were no longer available.  In December 1936 a new space was found on the 3rd floor for Christian, where nine of the original thirteen paintings were hung.
