  • "This Female figure is bare to the waist, wears a skirt, and is barefoot.  Symbols of native crops (cotton, corn, tobacco) are carved from her right knee to her left thigh.  her arms are extended; her right hand holds a cotton bale and her left hand a spinning wheel.  Weeight rests on her left leg; her right leg acts as an elastic prop.  Realistic treatment but not fussy.  Subordination of detail and emphasis on planes."
